Paris, France01/21–04/21

Who would think of Paris as a city with closed museums, no tourists and cafés only selling coffee to go. The COVID-19 pandemic shaped my stay and my original project had to be postponed. Everything turned out differently than I had planned and imagined. And so I found a great book on the city's history in my atelier. You might say that it had waited there for me. Where does Paris begin and where do the suburbs end? On my forays into the complexity of the city, I discovered fantastic places and audacious buildings. Paris raised my curiosity and, yes, I want to come back again.

1. My stay in one word:
  Animated.
2. Things I miss since I am no longer there:
  Cheese and graphic novels.
3. Dos & Don'ts at this place?
Dos: Getting an espresso from the coffee roasters at the corner, sitting down by the Seine and letting the day go by.
Don'ts: I can't remember any.
4. Where you can buy great supplies:
Magasin Sennerlier, Carré Rive Gauche, art supplies with a good choice of inks, pigments, etc.
5. What you should definitely bring with you from home:
Good shoes and a bicycle helmet.
6. On art at my residency place:
French comic and graphic novels. It's worthwhile to visit a comic shop, e.g. Librairie Opéra BD.
My tip: learning the language with comics.
7. Around the studio – this is where I go shopping, drink a coffee and get the best lunch specials within walking distance:
The Boulangerie Au Petit Versailles du Marais, right around the corner at the Cité, has the best baguettes.
8. Where I like to spend the evening (dinner, drinks and best sound):
Restaurants and bars were closed because of the COVID-19 measures.
9. What I would have liked to know about the studio already at the start of my residency:
If you want to know where parties take place, you should subscribe to the Cité's WhatsApp group.
