Rome, Italy10/13–12/13

As a visiting artist, you are in the middle of a very vibrant and noisy environment – not only an Italian one, but also a global, touristic one for whose excesses you develop a love-hate relationship during a three-month stay. It is often that you wonder whether you should mentally reject this particular place of residence in Rome or rather enjoy the opportunity to spend time there. The masses of tourists and the permanent noise level can kill you. But all in all, it is, of course, a special experience to live there and to be in the middle of Rome. What is more, you should never forget that you are a tourist, too.

1. Dos & don'ts in this place:
It is no use getting annoyed with tourists. After all you are a tourist yourself.
2. Where to buy great supplies:
Articoli Per Belli Arti, Via del Piè di Marmo, 37, 00186 Roma
3. Concerning art at this destination:
Anytime and anywhere. Until you reach a point when you try to get away from it.
4. Around the studio – where I shop, drink my coffee and get the best lunch deal in walking distance:
Carrefour Express - Supermercato, Via del Governo Vecchio, 119, 00186 Roma?
Café in the building: Emporio alla Pace, Via Della Pace, 28, 00186 Roma
?I have no idea whether there are any lunch specials, but the pizza is excellent anyway: Pizzeria Baffetto, Via del Governo Vecchio, 114, 00186 Roma
5. Where I like to spend the evening (dinner, drinks and best sound):
At the studio. If you take care of the drinks yourself, you are in fact right in the thick of it here.
6. What would have been useful to know before coming here and starting my residency:
Of course, we were told that it’s very noisy. Nevertheless, we were surprised by the actual noise level!
