NEW YORK I LOVE YOU, YOU CRAZY DIAMOND!
| 1. | My stay in one word: |
| Amazing | |
| 2. | Things I miss since I am no longer there: |
| I miss the apartment, New York stoicism and optimism, the roaring noise and riding the subway. | |
| 3. | Dos & Don'ts at this place: |
| Always be open for everything. Don'ts: Always be open for everything. | |
| 4. | Where you can buy great supplies: |
| There is plenty of free material for your work lying on the pavements. Anything else you need is available at B&H, Home Depot and 99cent stores. | |
| 5. | What you should definitely bring with you from home: |
| A lot of money. | |
| 6. | On art at my residency place: |
| The entire city is full of art, you hardly have enough time to digest all the impressions. For your relaxation, I recommend you to go for a walk on Brighton Beach or Rockaway Beach; afterwards you can again work well at your own studio at the ISCP. | |
| 7. | Around the studio – this is where I go shopping, drink a coffee and get the best lunch specials within walking distance: |
| You can get coffee on every street corner. Directly opposite the Grand Chelsea, there is a small take-out place that is only open at noon. It always has just two dishes. I recommend the "sushi burrito". | |
| 8. | Where I like to spend the evening (dinner, drinks and best sound): |
| Grand Sichuan (229 9th Ave): You absolutely must order pork soup dumplings. bflat (Tribeca): Jazz bar with Japanese cocktails. McKenna's Pub (250 West 14th): Dive bar with affordable bar food, burgers, wings, etc. HAPPY HOUR! |
|
| 9. | What I would have liked to know about the studio already at the start of my residency: |
| That there are cabinets behind the mirrors in the bathroom (if I only had read Lena Rosa Händle's AWAY diary!) |
